The 'Camiño á Afouteza' project, part of the 2026 'O Teu Xacobeo' program, aims to promote well-being, personal growth, and empowerment for women with diverse profiles and backgrounds through collective experiences linked to the English Way. The initiative, supported by the Xunta, is structured into five stages designed to strengthen bonds and create spaces for mutual support.
The activity held in Carral, titled 'Dar: Facer pan, facer comunidade' (Giving: Making bread, making community), focused on the local bread-making tradition. Participants made bread in small groups, combining collective work with conversation and valuing traditional knowledge. The event also included a tasting and discussion with Mari Carmen Fernández from the Pedro Fernández bakery.
Belén do Campo emphasized the importance of initiatives like this that combine the promotion of the Camino de Santiago values with equality, social participation, and valuing the unique resources of each territory, placing people at the center.
The 'Camiño á Afouteza' project includes five activities in different locations along the English Way. The first took place at Oza beach (A Coruña) and in the Cecebre forest (Cambre). Subsequent events will be held in Mesía on October 26th, featuring a craft workshop led by renowned artisan Idoia Cuesta, and will conclude with the 'Ser activas' (Being active) stage leading to Santiago de Compostela.
Gaia Inclusiva's initiative is among the 55 projects supported by the O Teu Xacobeo program, which has a budget of nearly one million euros for around 300 activities across Galicia. Turismo de Galicia has also launched a new call for projects in 2027 with a budget of two million euros.
