The residents of Arcade can now enjoy the renovated Talo Río square, which transforms a central area of the town into a more accessible, modern, green, and humanized place. The project involved a complete renovation of the space, resolving underground issues, and improving accessibility by eliminating architectural barriers and separating sanitation networks.
Mayor Manu Lourenzo highlighted the importance of the intervention, acknowledging unforeseen underground problems that delayed the work. "It was necessary to resolve these issues so that the final result would be up to the standard the residents deserve," he explained.
Lourenzo emphasized that the square "features quality materials, is more accessible, with green spaces, and designed for people to live in and share," aiming to be a meeting and coexistence place that also boosts local businesses.
This initiative is part of the municipal objective to create a more people-friendly urban center, improving quality of life and fostering closer relationships with local commerce. The total investment is around 1.2 million euros, funded by the Provincial Council of Pontevedra's Extraordinary Plan (700,000 euros) and the City Council's own funds.
To coincide with the opening, the City Council has organized cultural and leisure activities for the weekend. Saturday features a magic workshop (11:30 am), the family show GaleRock no Camiño (5:30 pm), and the cover concert Desconcerto (7:30 pm). On Sunday, the Banda Artística de Arcade will perform (12:30 pm).
Activities in the new square will continue next week with the Samaín celebration, establishing Talo Río as a new cultural and festive meeting point in Arcade.
