This initiative aims to introduce the school community to the values and environmental richness of the four archipelagos that make up this natural space: Cíes, Ons, Sálvora, and Cortegada. The program is intended for students and teachers from the municipalities of Bueu, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Ribeira, and Vigo.
It includes educational activities such as games, storytelling, and audiovisual presentations, adapted to all educational levels, from Infant Education to Baccalaureate. Activities can be requested until March 15, 2027, and will take place both at the National Park Visitor Center in Vigo and at the schools themselves.
Furthermore, classrooms can participate in the ‘O Parque Nacional coa Escola’ contest by submitting projects related to the natural and cultural values of the archipelagos. Winning schools will visit the islands in spring for an interpretive route.
Since its launch in 2017, the program has involved an average of 50 centers and 2,000 students per academic year, totaling over 26,000 schoolchildren. The National Park's management has been working with other educational approaches since 2004, with more than 40,000 participants in total.
Teachers have positively evaluated the program for its effective adaptation of methodologies and dynamics to different educational levels. The Xunta also encourages centers to contact the National Park's guide team to explore collaborations on educational projects concerning the Atlantic Islands, protected areas, or the sea.
