The School of Industrial Engineering (EEI) at the Universidade de Vigo celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Industrial Engineering programs last Saturday on its Vigo campus, emphasizing its role in innovation and technological progress.

The EEI campus hosted a commemorative event attended by representatives from the academic, business, industrial, and social spheres of Vigo and Galicia. Over two hours, the past, present, and future of the studies, its alumni, and the center were discussed, highlighting its contribution to regional development and reflecting on the challenges of future engineering.
The rector of UVigo, Carmen García Mateo, recalled the importance of the educational community, its connection to the industrial environment, and its public nature. She also stressed the need to encourage female vocations in industrial engineering and expressed her hope that the School will continue to be a source of ideas, projects, and opportunities for future generations.
The Director of the School, José Fariña, thanked the support of institutions and the university community, highlighting the "shared commitment, enthusiasm, and constant work" in building an institution that has contributed to societal progress through the training of engineers.
Also present were Diego Rodríguez González, Head of Culture at the Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza; José Alberto Díez de Castro, Secretary General of Universities; and Abel Caballero, Mayor of Vigo. Following a video of former Directors, Carlos Castaño, Vice President of Engineering at Borgwarner, gave a presentation on industry, talent, and innovation, followed by a panel discussion with retired faculty and company executives.
The presentation of a book by former rector Luis Espada, chronicling the history of industrial engineering studies in Vigo, and the projection of class photos and historical images, concluded the event. The celebration also marked the 125th anniversary of the Escola de Artes e Industrias de Vigo, the predecessor to the current EEI. The Escola Técnica Superior de Enxeñeiros Industriais de Vigo began its academic activities on October 20, 1976.
