The University of Vigo is launching the Lingua collection, specializing in linguistics, with the aim of increasing research visibility and introducing new perspectives.

The University of Vigo is reinforcing its commitment to disseminating linguistic research with the Lingua collection, an initiative driven by the Lingua Research Institute (iLingua) in collaboration with the Publications Service. The collection aims to provide visibility for specialized works on language and languages, particularly those related to the institute's thematic areas, and to offer an editorial space for both new perspectives and the revision and updating of classic contributions.
This Thursday, the first book in this new collection, Glotosemiótica. Integración del signo lingüístico de F. de Saussure en la semiótica de Ch. S. Peirce, was presented in the degree hall of the Faculty of Philology and Translation. At the event, the author, Juan Carlos Moreno Cabrera, a retired professor from the Autonomous University of Madrid, was accompanied by the director of the Publications Service, David Tizón; the director and secretary of the Lingua institute, Javier Pérez Guerra and María del Carmen Méndez, and the Publications delegate for iLingua, Mª del Carmen Cabeza.
This first book, over 500 pages long, explores the dialogue between the semiology of Ferdinand de Saussure and the semiotics of Charles S. Peirce, integrating Saussurean linguistic signs within Peirce's theoretical framework to reflect on the foundations of signification.
María del Carmen Cabeza explained that the series aims to disseminate linguistic research, exploring new perspectives and revisiting classic contributions. She noted that the first volume, Glotosemiótica, represents a fortunate encounter at the crossroads of the nature of symbols and the construction of language. She also highlighted the breadth of Moreno Cabrera's work, which integrates sign languages and writing in a broad semiotic proposal, a result of his "audacity, talent, and analytical depth".
For his part, David Tizón, director of the Publications Service, described the Lingua collection as a benchmark for its commitment to editorial excellence, with its own scientific committee and external advisory board. He indicated that it has the capacity to attract highly relevant works and aims for editorial quality seals such as CEA-APQ, which would make it the first collection from UVigo to achieve this.
The presentation of the new collection was accompanied by a lecture by Professor Moreno Cabrera, titled Una incursión de ida y vuelta en zigzag, focusing on the iconic aspects of ideophones through the analysis of the word ‘zigzag’.
