A total of 64 restaurants on the Galician coast are participating in the 'Eat the sea, eat health' initiative, offering menus designed with nutritionists that highlight seafood and its health benefits.

Under the slogan ‘Eat the sea, eat health’, participating restaurants will include, within their usual menu, suggestions and menus designed in collaboration with nutritionists that feature seafood as the protagonist. The objective is to publicize the benefits that fish, shellfish, mollusks, and algae have for our well-being.
The Local Action Groups for the Fisheries Sector (GALP) are joining forces with catering establishments to offer “Pesca Saúde Menus”. These menus demonstrate how to combine gastronomic excellence, healthy habits, and the consumption of local products. The establishments have been working for months with the Pesca Saúde nutritionists team on the development of personalized proposals and highlighting dishes already present on their menus.
The complete list of restaurants and the menus, which include nutritional information, can be found on the project's website, pescasaude.gal. The menus will be offered between October 22nd and November 22nd.
Pesca Saúde was created in response to the progressive decline in fresh fish consumption and the rise of ultra-processed foods in diets, a trend associated with an increase in diseases. The project advocates for the regular consumption of seafood not only as a dietary matter but as a public health strategy supported by scientific evidence, given its role in cardiovascular, cerebral, bone, muscle, immune, and metabolic well-being.
The initiative is funded by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) through the Consellería do Mar. Seven GALPs from the Galician coast are participating: Ría de Vigo-A Guarda, Ría de Pontevedra, Ría de Arousa, Costa Sostible, Costa da Morte, Golfo Ártabro Sur, and A Mariña-Ortegal. It also has the collaboration of the Consellería de Sanidade.
