The Secretary General of Linguistic Policy, Valentín García, presented today in Santiago de Compostela the 8th edition of the Rosalía de Castro School Poetry Contest, an initiative aimed at fostering poetic creation in Galician among students.

The contest, which has the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia, the Fundación Rosalía de Castro, and El Corte Inglés, seeks to introduce the figure of Rosalía de Castro to younger generations and promote writing in the Galician language.
García highlighted that it is a "consolidated contest to which we contribute to reinforce the involvement of the educational community in an initiative that drives literary talent and writing in our language." He added the importance of "generating proposals of interest around Galician that motivate young people within educational centers."
The call is open to students of the 2026-2027 academic year and is divided into three categories: third cycle of Primary (5th and 6th grade), first cycle of Secondary (1st and 2nd year), and second cycle of Secondary (3rd and 4th year). The works, which must be original and written in Galician, can be submitted until January 15, 2027.
The original works can be submitted to the Communication departments of any of the El Corte Inglés centers in Galicia or delivered in person at their bookstores. The contest rules, which include prizes in gift cards, are available on the websites of the Fundación Rosalía de Castro and El Corte Inglés.
