The Secretary General of Language, Valentín García, highlighted today in Santiago de Compostela that music and sports are "means to socialize in Galician and enhance the language's prestige, especially among young people".

The Secretary General of Language, Valentín García, participated in the opening of the XXVIII Meetings for Linguistic Normalization, organized by the Consello da Cultura Galega with the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia. Under the theme Music, pride and identity, García stressed that youth is one of the main focuses of the Galician Government to boost the presence of the language in various fields.
The representative of the Consellería de Cultura, Lingua e Xuventude emphasized collaboration with artists who champion lyrics in Galician and the launch of initiatives in the digital and sports worlds. He recalled that the Xunta is creating a line of aid for sports entities to promote the use of the language among their participants, families, and professionals.
Furthermore, García pointed out that these disciplines serve as tools for people not born in Galicia to approach the language and culture, integrating socially. In this regard, he announced that the Xunta will launch 150 new courses next year for an introduction to the Galician language and culture, aiming to reach 2,000 foreign individuals, following the 1,500 from the previous edition.
These proposals are part of the 700 measures in the new Plan de normalización da lingua galega, recently approved by the Galician Parliament with the agreement of the majority of parliamentary groups, for which the Xunta de Galicia will have a budget of 14.5 million euros.
