Professor Martín Pereira Fariña has been elected the new dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC), succeeding Xavier de Donato. The election, with 15 votes in favor and none against, marks the beginning of a six-year term focused on improving infrastructure and adapting teaching and research to new challenges.

The new dean, Martín Pereira Fariña, takes office with the aim of "consolidating the good work done in recent times" and will focus on improving the historic building and teaching infrastructure. One of the main challenges will be managing radon gas and analyzing undergraduate and master's degree programs to identify areas for improvement in coordination and work-life balance.
Pereira Fariña also highlighted the importance of addressing the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and research. Furthermore, he will seek to "simplify and streamline the day-to-day management of the center" and maintain the faculty's cultural activity, making it a "reference point for critical discussion and reflection in the city".
The new dean holds a degree in Philosophy (2007) and a PhD from the USC (2012), with a thesis on a computational model for Aristotelian syllogistic logic. He was a postdoctoral researcher in Chile, the United Kingdom, and at the Incipit-CSIC. Since 2019, he has been a tenure-track professor in the Department of Philosophy and Anthropology at USC, working on argumentation theory and the philosophy of AI, with over 80 scientific publications.
In his management career, Martín Pereira Fariña has served as secretary of the Faculty of Philosophy and director of the Department of Philosophy and Anthropology. The dean's team is completed by secretary Eduardo Pérez Navarro and vice-dean Delmiro Rocha Álvarez.
