Galicia now has three nodes for the IMPaCT Cohort, an ambitious epidemiological research project driven by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) that will study the health of 200,000 people in Spain for over 20 years.

The Galician nodes are located at the San Xosé health center in A Coruña; the Concepción Arenal health center in Santiago de Compostela; and the Bembrive health center in Vigo. Nationally, Cohorte IMPaCT has 51 nodes distributed across Spain and involves nearly 45,000 participants.
The project's main objective is to understand the factors determining population health and their role in disease onset. It examines lifestyle, environment, diet, social characteristics, and genetics to advance knowledge on conditions like cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, and to develop prevention strategies and precision medicine.
Participants, randomly selected, undergo questionnaires, physical examinations, and biomarker analysis. The study's longitudinal nature, with over two decades of follow-up, will allow analysis of health and habit evolution and identification of protective or risk factors.
Primary Care plays a fundamental role, coordinated in Galicia by the Galician Health Service (SERGAS) and in collaboration with the community's biomedical research institutes. Dr. Sinda Blanco, a primary care physician and lead investigator for Cohorte IMPaCT in Galicia, highlights the importance of Galician participation and thanks the over 2,000 participants in the region for their generosity.
Cohorte IMPaCT is part of the Infrastructure for Precision Medicine associated with Science and Technology (IMPaCT), funded by the Carlos III Health Institute and co-financed by the European Union-NextGenerationEU. The project's slogan is #SiTeLlamanVen (If they call you, come).
