The Xunta de Galicia, through the Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Sports, Diego Calvo, today in Santiago de Compostela, officially launched the comprehensive reform of the Galician Civil Law with the establishment of the Superior Commission for its study.

The meeting, chaired by Diego Calvo and attended by the Director General of Justice, José Tronchoni, marks the formal start of the institutional process to modernize regional regulations. This initiative is part of the Xunta's commitment to a more modern, efficient, and citizen-centric justice system.
The Superior Commission comprises representatives from the regional administration, the High Court of Justice of Galicia, Galician universities, and various legal and professional institutions. Among the participating institutions are the Consello da Cultura Galega, the Consello da Avogacía Galega, the Consello Galego de Procuradores, the Official College of Property and Commercial Registrars, the Notarial College of Galicia, and the Galician Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation.
The Galician government is promoting this reform due to the need to adapt the current legislation, dating from 2006 and last revised in 2017, to the new sociological, technological, and international legal context. It also aims to address the protection of individuals with disabilities, the elderly, or those in situations of unwanted loneliness.
A reform proposal developed by the Notarial Commission of Civil Law of Galicia, presented last month, will serve as a starting point for the commission's work. This will be complemented by contributions from other affected institutions and associations.
