The contract, published on the Public Contracts Platform of Galicia, is divided into seven lots comprising necessary material for the center's launch and operation. The equipment includes transport stretchers, high-performance defibrillators with pacemakers, and a portable ultrasound machine. The contract also covers an anesthesia system compatible with magnetic resonance imaging and a respirator for transporting pediatric patients.
Additionally, the contract includes two types of monitors: one for tracking basic physiological parameters and monitoring patients' vital signs, and another multiparametric monitor that allows for simultaneous measurement and visualization of various constants. The procurement also encompasses the distribution, assembly, and installation of the equipment, as well as its integration into the Galician Health Service's information systems where necessary.
Interested companies can submit their offers until November 23rd at 2:00 PM. The Galicia Proton Therapy Center is expected to begin treating patients between the end of this year and early 2027, becoming the first in the National Health System to offer this type of treatment, with an estimated capacity of 250 patients per year.
The center will focus particularly on cancer patients with a high life expectancy, with special attention to the pediatric population. The total investment for the Galicia Proton Therapy Center exceeds 60 million euros for construction and equipment. This budget includes the 28 million euros contributed by the Amancio Ortega Foundation to the Galician public health system as part of the agreement to promote proton therapy in Spain. The building's construction, promoted by the Galician government, is co-financed by European funds from the Feder Galicia 2021-2027 program.
