The director of the Galician Agency for Food Quality, Martín Alemparte, today awarded diplomas for the Galicia Wine Educator 2026 program, which trained 15 international experts in Galician wines to become global prescribers.

The initiative, promoted by the Agency and technically directed by Jorge Vila of Galicia Wine Academy, brought together 15 professionals from Europe, America, Asia, and Oceania involved in wine education, communication, and marketing. Notable attendees include content development managers from the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and educators from specialized schools.
Over a week, participants toured the five Galician wine appellations —Rías Baixas, Ribeiro, Monterrei, Valdeorras, and Ribeira Sacra— visiting eleven representative wineries. This experience allowed them to directly learn about indigenous grape varieties, cultivation and production methods, and the connection of wines with the landscape, culture, and identity of each territory.
A key objective of the program is to train professionals who can act as future prescribers of Galician wines in international markets, integrating them into their teaching activities, tastings, and outreach efforts. This initiative is part of the promotion strategy by the Xunta de Galicia, through AGACAL, under the brand Aquí Sabemos (We Know Here).
