The Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, indicated that this initiative was presented during the Ribadeo cardioprotegido project event, supported by the Galician government, in San Francisco street park. There, accompanied by the director of the Public Foundation Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061, Román Gómez, he thanked the mayor of Ribadeo, Alma Industries, and the Spanish Heart Foundation for their involvement.
Gómez Caamaño positioned Ribadeo as the first Galician municipality to debut this health protection model. The Xunta will announce a subsidy order for municipalities wishing to equip themselves with defibrillators and install them in streets, allowing for equipment outside health centers, connected 24 hours to the 061, with geolocation and the necessary material to intervene in case of cardiac arrest.
The minister emphasized the importance of all municipalities in Galicia benefiting from these subsidies, as local administrations best know their residents' needs and can identify the most suitable locations. As a complementary measure, training actions are planned, delivered by staff from the Hospital da Mariña, aimed at the general public, associations, sports entities, educational centers, and local groups.
Furthermore, the Xunta promotes emergency training with programs like RCP na Aula, through which the 061 has already trained over 105,000 Galician schoolchildren in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Through the Sergas Móbil application, information is provided to locate over 3,800 registered defibrillators throughout Galicia.
During the event, the minister also announced that the Galician Health Service is finalizing procedures to tender the construction project for the new health center in Ribadeo. This new center will expand care spaces, incorporate new services, and improve conditions for both patients and professionals. It will feature six family medicine consultations, six nursing consultations, a sample collection room, a pharmacy consultation, two technical rooms for ultrasounds, spirometry, and minor surgery, among other services. It will also include a pediatrics consultation and a pediatric nursing consultation, a midwife's office, a women's program office, and a health education room. Additionally, there will be a dentistry consultation, a hygienist's office, physiotherapy, and a radiology area to provide more comprehensive and multidisciplinary care. Regarding emergency care in Ribadeo, the PAC spaces will be reinforced with an observation room, a critical care box, two general medicine consultations, and one nursing consultation, among other facilities. There will also be space for the 061.
