The Galician Governing Council has approved an order from the Ministry of Health allocating €12,699,833 for improvements in pay and working conditions for professionals of the Galician Health Service (Sergas) and specialized healthcare training residents.

The new regulation, published today in the Official Gazette of Galicia, introduces a new remuneration concept for resident staff, called the 'residence complement'. This will be progressively implemented from January 1, 2027, reaching €120 per month for A1 group residents (MIR, PIR) and €90 for A2 group residents (internal nursing residents) by 2029. From 2030 onwards, these amounts will increase according to the general raise established by budgetary laws.
Furthermore, remuneration for the fifth and subsequent on-call duties for A1 residents has been improved, effective from June 1 of this year. The hourly rate ranges from €21.21 for first-year residents to €30.26 for fourth and fifth-year residents.
The agreement also includes improvements in compensatory rest for Friday on-call duties for hospital staff, which can be taken within 15 days of its completion. This measure, along with the compensatory rest for residents, applies to on-call duties performed since September 4 of this year.
Of the total investment of €12.6 million, €8,810,126 will be allocated to measures benefiting residents, and €3,889,707 to the implementation of compensatory rest for Friday on-call duties for Sergas staff. These improvements fulfill the end-of-strike agreement reached with trade unions on May 8.
