The President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, today highlighted Galician commerce as a fundamental sector in Galicia, with 32,000 establishments and 107,000 jobs that, through their work, are also part of Galicia Calidade. Furthermore, he noted that in the face of new challenges, it is consolidating itself as an increasingly modern and competitive activity.
He stated this this afternoon during his participation in the delivery of the 2026 Galician Commerce Awards, an event attended by the Minister of Employment, Commerce, and Emigration, José González. In his speech, Rueda emphasized the sector's importance in generating local wealth, revitalizing communities, structuring the territory, and preserving traditions while embracing innovation to offer the highest quality products and services.
He pledged the Xunta's support to continue consolidating and promoting its activity. Among other measures, such as those outlined in the sector's Strategic Plan, the Activa Comercio vouchers will be available for download tomorrow, marking the second edition of this initiative in 2026, aimed at boosting local commerce.
The awards presented today are an initiative launched by the Xunta to recognize the sector's best practices and promote its competitiveness. In the case of the Premio Comercio Galego, which recognizes the establishment that exemplifies the values of local commerce with a modern and adapted business model, the winner was the A Coruña haberdashery La Crisálida.

The Premio Comercio Traxectoria, meanwhile, recognizes initiatives with a consolidated history that create a special bond with their respective environments.
