The Castro do Teso da Ermida, in Navia de Suarna, will host a guided tour this Wednesday, October 28, to present the findings of the new archaeological campaign, funded by the Xunta with 20,000 euros.

The archaeological site of Castro do Teso da Ermida, located in Navia de Suarna, will be the setting this Wednesday, October 28, for a guided tour open to the public. The aim is to present the results of the recent research, enhancement, and improvement campaign for the visitor area. The session will begin at 5:00 PM and will be freely accessible.
The Ministry of Culture, Language, and Youth of the Xunta de Galicia, in collaboration with the Council of Navia de Suarna and the Ser Association, has funded this initiative with a total of 20,000 euros. The technical team responsible for the work will present the conclusions of the intervention.
The Castro do Teso da Ermida, situated near Vilela in the parish of Santa María de Son, is a Castro settlement covering approximately two hectares. Located on a rocky spur, it is associated with ancient gold mining and is notable for its walled enclosure, representative of the Iron Age in Galicia.
The latest campaign focused on excavating about 30 square meters in sector 2, continuing previous interventions to complete the layout of three dwellings and improve the visitor access and interpretation route. Cleaning, clearing, consolidation, and conditioning of archaeological structures excavated in recent years were also carried out.
Since 2020, various campaigns have been conducted, facilitating the conservation, characterization, and enhancement of the castro, including the restoration of the old hermitage within its grounds. The 2025 intervention expanded sector 2, revealing seven dwellings (four complete and three partial), as well as pathways, alleys, leveling and retaining walls, stairs, paved areas, and drainage systems.
