The event, organized by Galicia Suroeste on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, recognized the work of Ortega and the group she helped launch about fifteen years ago in Goián. The San Roquiño Cultural Group, born from the enthusiasm for making films, has become a non-profit initiative that brings together up to a hundred people and has produced seven films and numerous short films.
The mayor of Tomiño and president of Galicia Suroeste, Sandra González, highlighted the value of this recognition, stating that "Reme represents the enthusiasm and commitment of so many women who dedicate their time to launching initiatives that enrich the lives of their communities." She also emphasized the importance of making these contributions visible, as "women play a fundamental role in the cultural and associative life of rural areas, but this work does not always receive the attention it deserves."
“"Women play a fundamental role in the cultural and associative life of rural areas, but this work does not always receive the attention it deserves. This forum is an opportunity to thank them for their dedication and to learn about the stories behind projects that mean so much to the community."
The sixth edition of the event brought together institutional representatives and honorees from municipalities in Galicia Suroeste, with careers linked to various fields. During the ceremony, audiovisual pieces about their life stories were screened, and the Manifesto da Muller Rural Galega was read. A special recognition was also given to Carmen Tellado, a long-serving cook at the school in Pazos de Borbén.
The Tomiño City Council congratulated Reme Ortega on this distinction, extending the recognition to the San Roquiño Cultural Group for its contribution to a culture open to community participation.
