The Library of Tomiño, the Espazo Isaura Gómez, has been honored with the 2026 María Moliner Award, a state recognition that rewards its efforts in reading promotion and community involvement, surpassing 1,550 users.

The Tomiño City Council celebrates Library Day with the awarding of the 2026 María Moliner Award to its Espazo Isaura Gómez. This state award recognizes library projects that stand out for their reading promotion and community involvement. The library, opened just over a year ago, already has more than 1,550 users and is consolidating itself as a cultural, learning, and meeting point in the municipality.
The award, promoted by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), highlights the work of libraries in municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants to bring reading closer to all residents, especially those with greater access difficulties. Tomiño is among the 370 municipalities awarded nationwide and will receive nearly 3,000 euros for the acquisition of new library materials.
The mayor, Sandra González, stated that the award confirms the success of the municipal commitment to create a cultural space capable of offering stable programming and reaching all ages. She emphasized that residents participate and use the space daily, making it a driver of cultural transformation for Tomiño.
The Espazo Isaura Gómez offers varied programming for all ages, including storytelling, school visits, workshops, a book club, and book presentations. These services, along with the lending service and the use of facilities for study, have consolidated the library as a cultural reference point.
Sandra González also highlighted the work of the library team, emphasizing that the award recognizes those who attend, recommend books, prepare activities, and encourage people to return, making the library a space "made their own" by the community.
