Lugo City Council will increase the offer of places and hours in the municipal 'Sport for Seniors' program starting November 1st, aiming to accommodate waiting lists and facilitate the incorporation of new individuals over 65 years old.

The program, which currently has 400 participants, will see a significant expansion at the Frigsa and As Pedreiras facilities. This initiative, aimed at individuals over 65, seeks to promote active aging through regular physical activity at an annual cost of 7.90 euros.
Given the high demand, which exhausted the initial offer within three days, the council had already increased gymnastics session capacity from 50 to 60 people per group. However, waiting lists still include approximately 90 people at Frigsa and 30 at As Pedreiras.
From November 1st, 160 new gymnastics places will be available at Frigsa, with two additional sessions (08:15-09:00 and 12:45-13:30), and 40 new places at As Pedreiras, also with two sessions at the same times. Furthermore, swimming activity on Fridays will be expanded at both municipal facilities.
This expansion aims not only to accommodate those on the waiting list but also to offer participation opportunities to other interested seniors. Registrations can be completed directly at the Frigsa pool offices.
Lugo City Council highlights the benefits of regular exercise for maintaining mobility, strengthening muscles, and preventing falls, as well as fostering social relationships and combating sedentary lifestyles and unwanted loneliness among seniors.
