The Lugo City Council has greenlit a package of measures including enhanced dependency care, thanks to increased funding from the Xunta de Galicia, rising from 12 to 16 euros per hour in 2026. Rental assistance will also be convened, raising the subsidized rent limit from 400 to 550 euros with retroactive effects from January, alongside funds for rural road conservation and municipal building maintenance.
The increased funding from the Xunta allows for a 20% expansion of the Home Help Service (SAF), adding 3,138 hours of care. The contract amounts to 2,230,829.02 euros until 2029. The regional contribution will continue to grow, reaching 17 euros per hour in 2027 and 18 euros in 2028. The goal is to reduce the waiting list, which currently serves 455 individuals, down from 538 recorded on October 20th.
Regarding rental assistance, an expenditure of 200,000 euros has been authorized. The subsidized rent limit is raised to 550 euros, a 37.5% increase, to adapt to rising prices. This aid, effective retroactively from January 1, 2026, will cover 20% to 50% of the monthly rent based on family income and will have a maximum duration of 24 months.
Furthermore, two urban development licenses have been granted for the construction of 42 homes with a budget exceeding three million euros. A project on Avenida da Coruña includes 38 homes, commercial spaces, and garages, with a budget of 2,692,852.52 euros. The second license, on Rúa Florentino López Cuevillas, plans for four homes and 14 parking spaces with a budget of 384,364.47 euros.
The City Governing Board also approved the contracting of conservation and maintenance work for rural public roads, budgeted at 600,000 euros, divided into two lots. Additionally, the contracting process for the maintenance of municipal buildings has begun with an initial budget of 200,000 euros.
Other agreements include the allocation of 15,000 euros in grants for cultural associations and the application for new European funding to ensure the continuity of Europe Direct Lugo in 2027. Finally, the appointments of three local police officers and four administrative assistants as permanent civil servants were approved.
