The town of Valdoviño (A Coruña) hosted today the first training session of a project aimed at understanding and preserving the maritime-fishing cultural heritage of the area, with a special focus on traditional trades, seafaring culture, and oral memory.
The project, titled Maris: memory, art, network, and inclusion, is organized by the cultural association ASCM and receives regional funding of 12,500 euros over three years (2026-2028), through the Local Participatory Development Strategies (EDLP) and with the collaboration of the Local Action Group for the Fishing Sector (GALP) A Mariña-Ortegal.
The training sessions, aimed at individuals with and without disabilities, will last 35 hours and are part of a broader initiative that includes intergenerational meetings to collect oral memory related to the sea and the creation of an inclusive theatre play.
“"The project unites two fundamental issues: the conservation of a very important part of our history and identity, which is the culture linked to the sea, and on the other hand, inclusion and participation"
Delegate Martina Aneiros highlighted the initiative, emphasizing the importance of preserving seafaring culture and promoting inclusion. She also recalled that the latest call for EDLP aid had a budget of €10.3 million for the 2026-2027-2028 period.
