The regional contribution, communicated via a resolution on October 12, marks a crucial step towards realizing a facility that will expand sports, educational, and health promotion services in the municipality. Initially, Silleda was not among the beneficiaries, but the withdrawal of another council allowed its application, which held the top spot on the waiting list, to be included.
Following the confirmation of the aid, the municipal government has initiated contact with the opposition to seek an agreement on the project and its financing. The mayor, Paula Fernández Pena, believes the subsidy opens a new phase and is confident in achieving consensus among political parties to move forward with an infrastructure needed for years and which will serve all age groups.
The estimated total investment amounts to 3,674,838.03 euros (VAT included). To cover the remaining portion, after the regional contribution, the City Council plans to process a long-term credit operation for 3,175,000 euros, an option deemed most advantageous by municipal technicians to maintain public ownership of the facility.
The new facility will address a historical need in Silleda, offering swimming courses, adapted aquatic activities, and exercise programs for seniors, as well as reinforcing health promotion initiatives. A feasibility study from 2025 indicated that 80% of respondents expressed willingness to subscribe to the future pool.
The aid resolution sets November 15, 2027, as the deadline for executing and justifying the investment. Given the urgency, the City Council is preparing the joint contracting of the project's design and the execution of the works. The mayor emphasizes the commitment to dialogue and consensus to seize this opportunity for the municipality and its parishes.
