The Curtis City Council will formally request Adif to cede the old Teixeiro station warehouse with the aim of removing it and creating a safer pedestrian space, an initiative unanimously approved at the last plenary session.

The Curtis City Council will manage the removal of the old Teixeiro station warehouse to create a safer pedestrian space. The initiative is part of the agreement unanimously approved at the last plenary session on November 2, which ratified the request to Adif for an alternative underground pedestrian crossing at the height of the old level crossing to improve communication between both sides of the railway.
The mayor of Curtis City Council, Javier Caínzos, explained that “the location of this building is a danger to residents, because it forces them to go down to the road and assume the risk of being run over”. He detailed that “after being approved in plenary, the City Council had already sent the proposal to Adif” to take over this plot and allow “the construction of a longitudinal sidewalk that facilitates pedestrian mobility along the town”.
Currently, one of the corners of the old station warehouse blocks the sidewalk on Dctor. Luis Novo Avenue, forcing users to descend to the roadway, with the consequent risk to road safety. This is a particularly sensitive point for mobility in the town. The risk of being run over is increased for people with reduced mobility and the most vulnerable users, such as children and the elderly or families with baby strollers.
The removal of the building would allow for the creation of a wider pedestrian space and continuity of the sidewalk. In this way, one of the main obstacles to walking safely in this area would be eliminated, and mobility between the two parts of the town would be facilitated, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents.
In the plenary session of November 2, the municipal corporation unanimously approved ratifying the alternative chosen by residents from the four proposals by Adif to improve railway permeability in Teixeiro. Thus, the entity managing the railway infrastructure will be asked to build an underground pedestrian crossing at the height of the old level crossing, an option that obtained 61% of the support in the participatory process opened by the City Council.
