The Xunta de Galicia, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has provided €15,000 for the restoration of the pedestrian path and viewpoint at the Sailing School in Cabana de Bergantiños, enhancing safety and valuing a section of the Coastal Path.

The delegate of the Xunta in A Coruña, Belén do Campo, along with the mayor of Cabana de Bergantiños, José Muíño, and the territorial director of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Pilar Arias, visited this Monday the promenade near the Sailing School. The project, supported by a €15,000 grant from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, focused on restoring a section of the promenade and viewpoint overlooking the mouth of the Anllóns River, within an area of special landscape interest integrated into the Natura 2000 network.
The work involved repairing the deteriorated pavement, improving pedestrian safety conditions, and installing informational elements to aid user orientation and interpretation of the area's natural values. This included fixing a 25-meter long and five-meter wide section by leveling the surface, laying a concrete layer, and replacing the pavement and edges, reusing suitable materials and incorporating new stone to maintain the existing aesthetic.
Along the path's edges, earthen areas were regularized with topsoil and seeded with grass to stabilize the ground and reduce erosion risk, preserving the original configuration and materials.
The project also included new signage. Two treated wooden directional signs were installed indicating distances to the itinerary's endpoints (1,260 meters to As Grelas and 3,270 to Mount San Sebastián). Additionally, an interpretive table was placed at the viewpoint, offering information about the landscape and the Anllóns River estuary. These elements are made from materials resistant to coastal environmental conditions.
Belén do Campo recalled that this initiative is part of the Ministry of Environment's grants for preserving natural and cultural heritage in protected areas. She highlighted that the Xunta has awarded over €1.8 million this year through this call, supporting 159 projects across Galicia. In the province of A Coruña, 28 grants totaling nearly €400,000 were awarded, and in the Bergantiños-Costa da Morte region, five municipalities received approximately €70,000.
