The Oleiros City Council will fund with a total of 18,884 euros a new healthcare mission by the NGO Solidariedade Galega in Chiapas (Mexico), which will take place between October 29 and November 15.

The mission will involve 10 healthcare professionals: 2 specialists in gynecology, 2 in general surgery, 2 anesthetists, 2 ophthalmologists, 1 pediatrician, and 1 coordinator. The team will work in collaboration with the staff of the San Carlos de Altamirano Hospital to perform surgical interventions, specialized consultations, and training activities.
The project includes two lines of action. Firstly, the surgical team will carry out its activities at the hospital facilities, performing scheduled interventions. Secondly, professionals from the pediatrics, ophthalmology, and gynecology departments will travel to Zapatista communities to attend to the population facing greater difficulties in reaching the hospital, thus avoiding transportation costs.
Solidariedade Galega is a non-profit organization that provides healthcare and social assistance to vulnerable people in impoverished countries, promoting the training of healthcare professionals and collaboration with local staff.
The Oleiros City Council has been collaborating with Solidariedade Galega since 2016, funding projects to ensure access to healthcare for people with difficulties. On this occasion, it will contribute 100% of the planned budget to make this new humanitarian mission possible.
