A Coruña City Council began gardening tasks this week in Los Cantones and its surroundings, as part of the ambitious remodeling project nearing completion. This initiative aims to reorganize the space to facilitate pedestrian transit and promote sustainable mobility.
The gardening works reconfigure the area, substantially increasing the presence of plant elements to cover over 1,200 square meters, triple the existing amount. Workers are planting species such as Salvia stipa, Stipa tennissima, Salvia officinalis, and Anemone ranunculoides in the Cantón Pequeño's flowerbed, while Pachysandra and rhododendrons will be installed in the one separating the bike lane.
In the coming days, ground cover plants, two hornbeams for Juana de Vega, and pending trees will be added, bringing the total to 32 specimens, compared to the single tree that existed before the renovation. The mayor, Inés Rey, stated that these actions will "provide resting spaces and increase green areas," similar to those already implemented on San Andrés street.
Additionally, the City Council is advancing the landscape improvement of the Observatorio Park, in the Agra do Orzán neighborhood, with a vegetal repopulation that includes multi-species shrub beds and large isolated shrubs, such as Malus 'Evereste' and Sambucus nigra 'Black Beauty'. Residents have also contributed by painting a decorative mural called 'Rede de coidados' (Care Network).
Also in Agra do Orzán, the humanization of Páramo street is progressing well, with an investment of 340,000 euros, and the Pedestrian Ring Road connecting San Diego Park and Observatorio Park is being completed.
