The A Coruña Provincial Council today contributed 100,000 euros to the provincial Food Bank to support its work distributing food to vulnerable individuals and families.

The president of the A Coruña Provincial Council, Valentín González Formoso, and the president of the provincial Food Bank, Manuel María Mora, signed a collaboration agreement today at the council's headquarters. The provincial contribution, representing 71% of the project's total budget (140,690 euros), will be used for purchasing essential food items and hiring staff for the entity's warehouses.
During 2025, the Rías Altas Food Bank distributed 1,679,614 kilograms of food through 144 collaborating social entities, reaching 25,181 beneficiaries across the province. The organization operates four distribution warehouses in A Coruña, Ferrol, and Santiago de Compostela.
González Formoso highlighted the importance of the Food Bank's work and the collaboration between public administrations and social entities in combating poverty. He also emphasized the role of volunteers and the network of collaborating organizations.
The agreement will cover staff expenses, including a coordinator, an administrative assistant for Santiago, and a driver, who complement the efforts of approximately 80 regular volunteers and hundreds of occasional collaborators. The Food Bank, founded in 2010, focuses on the free distribution of surplus food.
