A Coruña City Council participated today in Rome in the "AI e Amministrazioni Locali" meeting, organized by IFEL, to analyze the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence in local administrations.

The City Council was represented by Emilio Álvarez-Miranda, Director of the Area of Environment, European Funds, and Digitalization, who presented the Allocate project and its model for developing local capacities for green and ethical artificial intelligence applied to the city.
The event brings together representatives from European institutions, public administrations, and the research and academic fields. The meeting is part of the Close to you program of the European Week of Regions and Cities, an annual EU event dedicated to cohesion policy, regional and urban development, and the role of territorial entities.
A Coruña City Council conceives Allocate as a city initiative. Its objective is to generate local capacities to apply green and ethical artificial intelligence and connect the City Council, the university, and businesses to address specific urban challenges.
The project incorporates three principles: improving the efficiency of urban services, reducing the energy consumption of infrastructures and AI models, and incorporating privacy, security, and governance from the outset.
Currently, the project is advancing towards capacity generation, with the development of use cases, infrastructure auditing, and energy metrics design. The Local Computing Community is also being deployed, and SMEs are being incorporated.
The project has an investment of 5.5 million euros, of which 4.4 million come from ERDF, within the framework of the European Urban Initiative, and 1.1 million correspond to the municipal contribution.
A Coruña City Council's participation in this event allows it to contribute the experience of Allocate to the exchange between territorial administrations and European institutions on the use of artificial intelligence in the public sector.
