The event will take place at the School of Industrial Engineering and is supported by the International School on Environmental Applications of Advanced Oxidation Processes (IPS-AOP), a leading scientific network comprising researchers from 25 countries. The local organization is led by Ángeles Sanromán and Marta Pazos, researchers from Cintecx, with the support of the international committee.
The main objective is to promote the exchange of scientific and technological knowledge in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) applied to water decontamination and environmental protection. The latest advances in this field will be presented, and scientific debate will be fostered, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among universities, research centers, and the industrial sector. It also aims to support the training of young researchers, particularly doctoral students.
Around a hundred attendees are expected, including established researchers, doctoral students, and industry professionals. "One of the main values of this meeting is precisely to facilitate contact between specialists from different countries and new generations of researchers," notes Marta Pazos.
The event will feature international experts such as André Torres-Pinto (Universidade do Porto), Grzegorz Boczkaj (Gdansk University of Technology), Suresh Pillai (Atlantic Technological University Sligo), and national experts including Elisa González-Romero (Universidade de Vigo), Fernando Juan Beltrán (Universidad de Extremadura), Antonio Arques (Universitat Politècnica de València), among others. Their extensive experience will offer participants a comprehensive view of the main challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of environmental engineering and sustainable water resource management.
The program will combine plenary lectures by top-level specialists, scientific communications, poster sessions for emerging researchers, round tables, and debate activities aimed at identifying future challenges in environmental decontamination. Additionally, a technical visit to the wastewater treatment facilities and the Aqualia drinking water plant in Vigo will be conducted.
The 5th EPS-AOPs is supported by UVigo, Cintecx, the School of Industrial Engineering, the International Doctoral School (EIDO), the Center for Postgraduate and Continuing Education of UVigo, the Social Council of the University of Vigo, Aqualia, the Concello de Vigo, and the Deputación de Pontevedra.
