The director of Turismo de Galicia, Xosé Merelles, participated today in a walk along the honey route in Rubiá, part of the V Nove program, to explore the region's natural and ethnographic values and its beekeeping tradition.
The day included a visit to the Visitor Center of the Serra da Enciña da Lastra Natural Park and to Oulego, where the beekeeping company O Marquesado presented the traditional 'alvariza' (beehive protection structure) and the characteristics of its honey.
Xosé Merelles highlighted the "potential of the region's natural and productive resources to diversify the tourist offer and reinforce its identity", emphasizing the Xunta's commitment to Valdeorras's tourism development through plans like the sustainable tourism plan and support for the Trevinca-Valdeorras geodestination.
The positive results of the Trevinca-Valdeorras geodestination, which saw the most growth in summer (54.6% visitors and 94.5% overnight stays compared to 2025), reflect Turismo de Galicia's focus on promoting its attractions.
According to the INE, visitor numbers have increased by over 43% year-to-date, with overnight stays rising by 64.6%. The director of Turismo de Galicia noted a significant increase in international tourists (over 100%) and national tourists (35%).
These initiatives confirm the Xunta's commitment to promoting Valdeorras as a sustainable, diversified tourist destination linked to its identity, aiming to enhance its appeal and generate economic opportunities.
