The Xunta de Galicia, in collaboration with the Costa da Morte Tourist Association (CMAT), is installing devices to count visitors at various tourist resources in the region. The aim is to obtain real data to improve planning, understand people's movements, and adapt resource management to the needs of each destination.
The first counter, installed at Vimianzo Castle, has recorded over 2,300 visitors since October 9th, with a daily average of 95 people. Preliminary data also indicate higher attendance during weekends, with Saturday and Sunday accounting for approximately 42% of total registrations.
Xosé Merelles emphasized that this objective information will help anticipate needs, balance tourist activity with heritage conservation, and improve the quality of life for local residents. It will also facilitate adjustments to schedules, services, signage, and investments, as well as analyze seasonality and better distribute visits across the territory.
This initial project plans for the installation of four devices in Costa da Morte, including another in the Concello de Laxe. The initiative is part of the region's tourism growth, which by September had seen a 13.4% increase in travelers and a 24.7% rise in international tourism.
Merelles also praised CMAT's work in fostering cooperation among municipalities and tourism stakeholders, equipping the destination with more efficient management tools amidst growing international demand.
