The Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, accompanied by the manager of the health area of Santiago de Compostela and Barbanza, Ángel Facio, inaugurated today the Scientific Conference: Personalized medicine and public-private collaboration in health research. The event was organized by the Health Research Institute of Santiago (IDIS) and the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
In his speech, the minister highlighted the Xunta's commitment to health research, reflected in the 2027 budgets, which allocate €83.2 million to this area. This funding aims to strengthen the public system's research capacity and ensure that scientific advances translate into improvements in patient care.
Gómez Caamaño emphasized the possibilities of personalized medicine for anticipating diseases, improving diagnoses, and tailoring treatments. He highlighted initiatives such as the Xenoma Galicia project, focused on genome analysis to enhance disease prevention and diagnosis, particularly for cancer and rare diseases. He also noted the development of advanced therapies, such as CAR-T therapies, and the importance of public-private collaboration.
The Health Research Institute of Santiago (IDIS), which plays a crucial role in connecting research with clinical practice and university activities, attracted over €50 million in 2025, led 115 research projects, and conducted nearly 400 clinical studies. The integration of IDIS into the Galician public health system contributes to creating a research network that accelerates the development of innovative solutions.
