The Xunta de Galicia highlights the role of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in raising awareness about the importance of participating in cancer screenings. The Galician Government's 2027 Budgets include, as a novelty, the progressive expansion of breast cancer screening to women aged 45 to 49, as well as the expansion for cervical cancer.
Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, and Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde Acuña, participated in the Solidarity Night Against Cancer, organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Santiago de Compostela. At the event, the Galician Government representatives acknowledged the association's work in disseminating early cancer detection programs and the importance of citizen participation.
Gómez Caamaño highlighted the inclusion in the Xunta's 2027 Budgets of the pioneering expansion of breast cancer screening for women aged 45 to 49. The current program, which covers ages 50 to 74, will gradually lower the access age starting next year, with the aim of achieving full coverage from age 45 by 2031.
Furthermore, he emphasized the expansion of cervical cancer screening for women between 25 and 35 years old, noting that those with an appropriate vaccination schedule will begin participating from the age of 30.
