The Real Filharmonía de Galicia (RFG), administratively managed by the Consorcio de Santiago, has opened the application period for the Symphony Composition Workshop RFG / RESIS.LAB 2027, in collaboration with the RESIS Festival of Contemporary Music of A Coruña. The initiative aims to support new generations of symphonic composers.
The workshop is aimed at creators in the early stages of their careers. A maximum of six proposals will be selected, which may still be in the process of composition, provided the submitted score allows for at least two minutes of music to be assessed.
Activities will take place in person at the Auditorio de Galicia, in Santiago de Compostela, on May 18, 19, 20, and 21, 2027. Selected participants will work on their compositions in a professional orchestral context, culminating in a public concert and the audio-visual recording of the performed pieces.
Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg, a prominent figure in contemporary music creation and the RFG's composer-in-residence for the 2026-2027 season, will be the tutor for this edition. Ben Voce will serve as musical director, and Baldur Brönnimann, the RFG's principal conductor and artistic director, will chair the evaluation committee alongside composer Hugo Gómez-Chao.
Composers of European nationality or residing in the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, or the UK are eligible. Each applicant may submit one original, unpublished work that has not previously received awards, written for orchestral formation without choir or soloists. Applications, along with a brief CV and the score in PDF format, must be submitted through the MUVAC platform.
The application submission period is open from October 15 to December 22, 2026. Notification of selected works will be sent before January 20, 2027. Final scores (maximum eight minutes) must be delivered by March 10, and individual parts in PDF by March 30.
Attendance at all workshop sessions is mandatory, with travel and accommodation expenses covered by the participants. The final concert, free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, May 21, at 8:00 PM, at the Auditorio de Galicia.
