The objective of this initiative is for the new doctoral candidates to conduct their theses in Galician companies and technology centers to promote knowledge transfer, as stated by the Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez, during the event. The Science Minister affirmed that the program is a strategic tool to connect the academic world with the productive sector, providing solutions to real problems and contributing to Galicia's competitiveness and modernization.
The minister highlighted that this initiative attracts talent, creates jobs, and drives knowledge transfer from universities. He also noted that 60% of doctoral students conducting their theses in companies maintain their employment vínculo after completion, a figure that rises to 83% for those in technology centers.
In this sixth call, 12 of the 15 doctoral candidates will carry out their theses in companies, and the remaining three in technology centers. Nine students are from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), five from the University of Vigo (UVigo), and one from the University of A Coruña (UDC). Key research areas include biology, pharmacy, medicine, engineering, physics, digitalization, and chemistry.
The program, which has supported 91 researchers across its editions, aims to address the needs and challenges of recipient companies and centers. It covers hiring costs and project expenses, while also offering support for three-month stays abroad. This initiative is part of the Xunta's commitment to talent and quality employment in R&D&I.
