The Real Filharmonía de Galicia (RFG) has closed the call for a new edition of its Orchestral Conducting Workshop, which received a total of 121 applications from different parts of the world. This high participation underscores the interest in this training initiative, through which the Compostela orchestra reaffirms its commitment to the professional development of new generations of conductors.
The admitted participants for this edition are Jacobus De Jager (South Africa), Nina Haug (Switzerland), Kentaro Machida (Japan), Adrian Rogers (United States), Jorge Yagüe (Spain), and Chunyi Zhao (China). The call also includes a waiting list to cover potential dropouts.
The workshop will take place from December 7 to 10, 2026, at the Auditorio de Galicia in Santiago de Compostela, under the direction of Baldur Brönnimann, chief conductor and artistic director of the RFG. Over four days, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their training through practical experience with a professional symphony orchestra, developing their skills and expanding their resources in musical conducting.
The initiative offers a space for direct learning where contact with the instrumental ensemble and the guidance of an experienced conductor are fundamental. Practical work allows participants to approach the dynamics of orchestral rehearsal, explore different conducting tools, and gain particularly valuable experience for their artistic evolution. This exchange also strengthens the orchestra's ties with professionals from various backgrounds, enriching the RFG with new artistic perspectives.
Under the artistic impulse of Baldur Brönnimann, the workshop is part of a commitment to keeping symphonic music alive through learning, renewal, and openness to new generations, contributing to the transmission of knowledge and the evolution of symphonic tradition.
