The Consellería do Mar, through Portos de Galicia, concluded this morning the repair of the automatic opening system for the gate that closes the Malpica dock, thereby ensuring shelter for the fishing fleet. This emergency intervention, carried out by a team of divers, restores the normal functioning of the system, which had required manual opening since last Wednesday.
The divers removed various waste materials, including a chain, which were obstructing the structure's movement on the seabed. Once the problem was detected and the obstacles were cleared, the gate has been operating automatically again since this morning.
Technicians from Portos de Galicia supervised the underwater work, which began early in the day. They also maintained constant contact with the head of the Malpica fishermen's guild to report on the resolution of the fault.
