The Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez, presented the 2027 budget for his department to the 3rd Commission of the Parliament of Galicia today. The budget amounts to €3.32 billion, a 7.5% increase from the previous year, positioning Galicia as one of the communities with the highest per-student investment in Spain, totaling €8,748.
A key highlight will be the offering of around 1,500 teaching positions in the examinations to be held next summer, utilizing the maximum 120% replacement rate allowed by state regulations. The minister recalled that since 2009, 21,698 positions have been offered, consolidating jobs and reducing interim employment rates.
The budget also includes a 5% salary increase for public and state-subsidized education staff and allocates over €1.985 billion to personnel costs. Furthermore, the current academic year has already seen the addition of nearly a thousand more teachers compared to the previous one.
The Galician Framework for Educational Advancement will receive €36.47 million to enhance the system's quality, introducing initiatives like Avanza Lectura and Avanza Matemáticas, and updating the curriculum for Primary and Secondary education. Galicia maintains its leadership in inclusive education, with 94.2% of students with special educational needs enrolled in mainstream schools.
Support for families will be strengthened with €70.3 million for school canteens and household aid, alongside the continuation of free textbooks and frozen university tuition fees, saving households €20 million annually. The modernization of educational infrastructure is allocated €72.6 million, including the construction of three new schools.
In the digital sphere, the Galician Law on Digital Education and the EdugalIA tool (with €6.9 million) aim to leverage new technologies and reduce school dropout rates. Vocational Training (FP) will receive €20.8 million to enhance its prestige and employment prospects.
The three public universities in Galicia will receive €576.2 million, the largest volume of resources in their history, with a strong focus on research and science (€353 million). Notable initiatives include the Retorna talento I+G+i program and support for the Galtia Foundation and the Galician Innovation Agency (€110.1 million).
Knowledge transfer to society and the productive sector will be supported with €23.1 million, while specialization in quantum computing and biotechnology will receive €40.2 million. The Galician Supercomputing Centre (CESGA) will be allocated €33 million for the new FinisTerrae IV supercomputer.
