The only requirements to donate are being over 18 years old and weighing more than 50 kilograms. It is necessary to have breakfast and wait two hours after lunch before donating. Donors must identify themselves with their donation card, ID, or similar document. Additionally, it is important to inform the doctor if any medication is being taken.
The Galician Agency for Blood, Organs, and Tissues, dependent on the Ministry of Health, maintains donation centers open in the seven major cities and deploys ten mobile units. These donations are processed and analyzed at central facilities to send blood components to all Galician hospitals.
