The Consello da Xunta acknowledged a report detailing the results of the first 16 months since Galicia fully assumed its coastal management functions and services. During this period, an average of five authorizations and titles related to different coastal uses were processed daily, covering both public domain and protection easements.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change processed 2,382 actions and issued 611 enabling reports. The new regional model aims for simpler, more homogeneous, and accessible processing, introducing changes such as a single electronic application model, unified criteria across the three coastal provinces, and common conditions for all citizens.
Technical criteria, the duration of temporary authorizations, and economic guarantees and administrative fees were also unified. Furthermore, the Xunta has promoted its own seasonal services model, extending the active period from Easter week until October 31st, authorizing nearly 900 activities this year. The 2027 season will be longer, starting on March 19th.
To enhance information and support, the Galicia Litoral portal was launched, receiving over 20,500 visits, and the 012 helpline handled 240 monthly calls. Training seminars were also organized, and the joint guide for seasonal coastal services was published.
For 2027, the Xunta will launch the Praias azuis program to promote a network of more sustainable and accessible beaches, with grants such as the Bono sostible azul for beach bars and subsidies for municipalities. The upcoming Registry of authorizations and concessions will improve transparency and administrative coordination.
