The City Council of Poio completed its first year of clearing work at the end of September, maintaining a total of 440,210 meters of municipal roads and paths, representing an increase of almost 9% compared to the previous year.

Mayor Ángel Moldes highlighted the local government's effort to improve the maintenance of public spaces and respond to the needs of the parishes. "We know that clearing is an essential service for residents, especially in a municipality like Poio, with significant territorial dispersion and numerous secondary roads and paths," he stated, adding that resources are being reinforced to reach more areas.
The investment allocated to clearing work increased this year by 250,000 euros, bringing the annual budget close to 600,000 euros. This amount had to be further increased due to complicated weather conditions, allowing for a year-round action plan that covers all parishes.
The work continues on a programmed basis to ensure the maintenance of paths, ditches, and green areas. In recent weeks, efforts have focused on areas including Caeira and Boavista, Combarro, San Martiño, Rial, Ucha, and San Salvador, among others.
Moldes emphasized that Galicia's climate conditions favor rapid vegetation growth, necessitating constant activity. "We cannot limit clearing to specific months. We are one of the few municipalities with a year-round work plan," he explained.
In addition to the work by the contract's awarded company, these tasks are complemented by actions from other local companies in schools and specific areas, as well as the activity of the Juan XXIII Foundation in the green areas of Ánkar, Lourido, and A Reiboa. This is further reinforced by a municipal team and, during the summer, the fire brigade. In urban areas, the cleaning company handles the clearing, while the Provincial Council of Pontevedra and the Xunta de Galicia are responsible for roads under their jurisdiction.
