The Padre Sarmiento Institute of Galician Studies (IEGPS) inaugurates the exhibition “Os nosos castelos: a pegada señorial dos Andrade” (Our Castles: The Noble Footprint of the Andrade Family) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the House of Culture in Pontedeume.

The exhibition, organized by the research group “Social History of Power since the Middle Ages” of the IEGPS with support from the Axencia Turismo de Galicia, the Concello de Pontedeume, and the Secretaría Xeral da Lingua, features fifteen panels detailing the historical and heritage significance of the Andrade family, focusing on Pontedeume and its surroundings.
The exhibition content covers noble architecture, the Andrade lineage, their presence in historical documents, and the cultural legacy they left, including legends and literary works. The inauguration will take place on November 3, 2026, at 5:30 PM in the House of Culture (former convent of San Agustín).
Speakers at the opening ceremony will include the mayor of Pontedeume, Bernardo Fernández Piñeiro; the director of IEGPS, Pablo S. Otero Piñeyro Maseda; and the exhibition curator, Eduardo Pardo de Guevara y Valdés. This will be followed by a guided tour, the award ceremony for the school drawing contest “Os nosos castelos”, and a panel discussion with specialists including Amparo Rubio Martínez and Carlos de Castro Álvarez.
The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from November 3 to November 15, 2026. This initiative continues the IEGPS's ongoing work on Galician castles and fortresses, which began in 2021.
