The equipment upgrade is also accompanied by an increase in the Local Police staff. The Local Government Board approved the appointment of three police officers as career civil servants. Furthermore, the upcoming incorporation of 7 agents is planned, to be filled through geographical mobility, 4 from the 2025 OPE (Public Employment Offer) and 3 from the 2026 OPE. These positions are part of the Public Employment Offer, promoted and approved by the current government team, which includes a total of 17 local police positions.
The six new SUV-type vehicles, equipped with 1,199 cc hybrid engines and 200 HP, provide patrols with more resources for checks, responding to various situations, and handling incidents with greater autonomy. The new equipment incorporates technology to facilitate police work and specific gear for intervention with enhanced guarantees.
Among the new features are two license plate reading devices connected to the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) database. This system allows officers to receive alerts about stolen vehicles, search warrants, judicial seizures, or vehicles linked to gender violence (VioGén). The vehicles also include cameras for recording interventions and aid traffic control with the addition of a breathalyzer and a laser speed gun.
Five of the six vehicles are equipped with a detainee kit featuring a separation screen, forced ventilation, and systems for opening/closing doors and locking/unlocking seatbelts from the driver's seat. They also include equipment such as a fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, flashlights, thermal blankets, barrier tape, signaling elements, luminous beacons, and tools for breaking glass and cutting seatbelts. A tablet and an animal microchip reader are also included.
This set of resources enables patrols, composed of two officers, to handle various incidents autonomously. With the incorporation of these vehicles and staff reinforcements, the Lugo City Council is advancing in the renewal of Local Police resources to facilitate officers' work and enhance citizen and road safety.
