Improvements are focused on the Baño football field, where the changing rooms are undergoing comprehensive renovation, including new sanitary facilities, tiles, and floors. Public restrooms will also be refurbished, the roof will be addressed, and the automatic irrigation system will be enhanced. These works follow the replacement of some of the deteriorated natural turf this past summer.
At the Campaña football field, the oldest in the complex, the synthetic turf has been replaced after 25 years of use with a new carpet meeting FIFA Quality Pro standards. Notably, the use of rubber crumb has been completely eliminated, replaced by an ecological infill made from corn husks. This move anticipates the ban on such material in 2031, aimed at reducing microplastic pollution. Installer Daniel Vidal explained the advantages of this new material, including sustainability and reduced heat accumulation.
In addition to the turf change at Campaña, improvements are also being made to the stands, including enhanced insulation and waterproofing of galleries and balconies, treatment of metal elements and walls with anti-corrosion measures, and repainting.
At the Beiro pavilion (referred to as Biero in the original text), work is underway to condition the building envelope, enclose the existing gallery behind the stands, and upgrade the air conditioning and fire prevention systems.
The project is financed by a 700,000 euro subsidy from the Ministry of Presidency, Justice and Sports, with the remaining half funded through an agreement with the Galician Institute of Housing and Land.
Mayor Bello Maneiro thanked the ministry for its collaboration and highlighted the necessity of these upgrades, noting the significant activity at the facilities, such as the 16 youth teams from Cordeiro CF playing in Campaña. Minister Diego Calvo emphasized the importance of these modern and efficient infrastructures for the residents of Valga and the surrounding area.
