The Plenary of the Municipal Corporation of A Laracha unanimously approved today the precautionary suspension of the granting of building or activity licenses for the installation of energy production plants through the treatment of organic waste or similar on rural land throughout the entire municipal area.

The measure, which took place in the auditorium of the Paiosaco Sociocultural Center, will have an initial duration of one year from its publication in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG), and may be extended for another two years, totaling a maximum of three years. This agreement aims to continue previous studies to modify the General Plan for Municipal Planning (PXOM) with the purpose of prohibiting or restricting these industries on rural land, especially where they may affect population centers or cultural heritage.
This precautionary suspension represents a preventive step while the modification of urban planning is developed. The City Council had already expressed its rejection of the Soandres biogas plant project since it became aware of it, taking all measures within its municipal powers and following technical, legal, and urban planning reports.
It was clarified that, to date, no municipal license application for these types of projects has been submitted to the A Laracha City Council. The only existing documentation relates to the initiative presented to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Xunta de Galicia for its environmental assessment.
