The jury for the 2026 Otero Pedrayo Award, organized by the Deputación da Coruña (Provincial Council of A Coruña), has awarded the prize by majority to the three recognized graphic humorists. The proposal, put forward by the Diputación itself, highlights "the indisputable value of graphic humor as a contribution to the culture of Galicia" and the work of the laureates for "publishing a daily cartoon for 50 years, thus being chroniclers of Galicia's history over the last five decades".
The Pazo de Mariñán hosted the jury's meeting, presided over by Anxo Manuel Lorenzo, Director General of Culture of the Xunta de Galicia, with Natividade González, Deputy of Culture for the Deputación da Coruña, serving as vice-president. Representatives from other Galician provincial councils, the Xunta de Galicia, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Vigo, the University of A Coruña, the Royal Galician Academy, the Padre Sarmiento Institute for Galician Studies, the Otero Pedrayo Foundation, as well as poet Luis González Tosar and illustrator Manel Cráneo, also participated.
The award, which includes a financial endowment of 16,000 euros jointly contributed by the four provincial councils and the Xunta de Galicia, aims to perpetuate the memory of Otero Pedrayo and recognize eminent contributions to Galician culture. With this year's decision, Xaquín Marín, Siro López, and Xosé Lois "Carrabouxo" join a list of recipients that includes the Coral Polifónica de Pontevedra (2025), Darío Villanueva (2023), and Rosario Álvarez (2021).
