The Xunta de Galicia has given environmental green light to the project for the installation of an electric energy storage system with two battery plants, each with a nominal capacity of 4.99 MW, in the municipality of A Coruña.

The resolution from the Consellería de Medio Ambiente e Cambio Climático does not foresee significant effects on the environment, provided that the conditions set in the environmental report and the evaluated documentation are met. The project will be developed on a plot within the Polígono Industrial da Grela.
The project, promoted by Taiga Mistral BESS, SL, will consist of an energy storage cluster formed by 2 lithium-ferrophosphate (FP) battery plants for grid charging and discharging. Each plant will have a nominal capacity of 4.99 MW and will be composed of containers with battery racks connected in parallel and in series.
The environmental impact assessment (EIA) was prepared as part of a simplified assessment procedure. The documentation submitted by the promoters was subject to public participation without receiving any objections, and 10 bodies were consulted. The evaluations consider the project viable upon compliance with the established conditions regarding the protection of the atmosphere, population, health, waters, soil, infrastructure, landscape, waste management, and natural heritage.
Once the EIA is issued, which does not exempt the promoter from obtaining all necessary authorizations, licenses, permits, or reports, the resolution has been sent to the competent authority and is now made public through an announcement in the Diario Oficial de Galicia and on the Ministry's website.
