The Mayoress of A Coruña, Inés Rey, supervised this Monday the progress of the works for the new José María Hernansáez square, a project with a municipal investment of 963,285 euros that will transform a former plot into an accessible public space with green and leisure areas.

The mayor, accompanied by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Jesús Celemín, and representatives of the O Castrillón-Urbanización Soto IAR Neighborhood Association, visited the O Castrillón neighborhood to see firsthand the progress in the creation of this new public space. The project aims to reclaim a degraded and undeveloped area, responding to the residents' demand for a place for gathering, leisure, and community.
The action, part of the 2025-2027 Neighborhood Plan, was agreed upon with the residents. The works have already completed the improvement of pedestrian accessibility, ensuring universal access to all building entrances in the area, and have executed the pathway connecting Avenida da Concordia with Calle José María Hernansáez. Biosaludable and calisthenics elements have also been installed, and public lighting points are being renewed, moving from building facades to ground-level poles.
In terms of landscaping, nine new trees of different species have been planted, and slopes have been conditioned with ivy, hedges, and lawn beds. Work is now focused on the area closest to Calle José María Hernansáez, advancing in the creation of the square and seating areas, after completing the site preparation and the installation of underground services.
“

"We have already completed a fundamental part of the action, which was the preparation of the land and the installation of the necessary services. Now we are advancing in the most visible part of the transformation, where this former plot begins to take shape as a new public square."
